What is Bussing Out?

In the 1960s and 70s, a government policy led to Black and Asian children being sent by bus from their neighbourhood schools to other parts of town. This policy—known as bussing—affected thousands of families but is rarely spoken about today.

Bussing Out invites you to step onto a recreated bus from the 1970s and listen to the voices, memories, and imagined stories inspired by real people who lived through this experience.

Using oral history, creative audio, animation and set design, the installation creates a powerful space to reflect on migration, identity, belonging and the places we call home.
