Join The Team: Community Sports Development Officer

Sport Service sits alongside the Cultural Service as part of Customer Services. Calderdale’s emerging vision for Sport Services is to Change Lives and Empower Communities by supporting the People of Calderdale to have the Opportunity, Capability and Motivation to be Active through Sport and Leisure.

We want to do this by:

• Providing a safe, inclusive, accessible and diverse sport and leisure offer.

• Building and developing partnerships with other sectors to support individuals and communities with the capability and motivation to be active through Sport and Leisure, prioritising inactive people.

Calderdale is turning 50 in 2024. We will be marking the end of our Vision 2024 with CultureDale, a Year of Culture celebrating the richness, diversity and distinctiveness of our communities across Calderdale. From April 2024 we will be launching a year of creativity and activity with opportunities for people to get involved across the borough.

We’re looking for creative, enterprising and enthusiastic people to help us deliver our most ambitious and exciting programme of cultural events yet.

This role will be based within Sport Services while supporting the work of the Cultural Programme Manager and other cultural posts to facilitate and deliver the sporting elements of the programme.

The role will work across Sport Services and with external partners, especially Calderdale’s vibrant voluntary and community sector, to promote and increase participation in physical activity and sport.

A key element will be developing and delivering a sustainable sport and physical activity engagement programme as part of the overall cultural programme while ensuring a legacy of a more inclusive, accessible and diverse sport sector in Calderdale.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent demonstrable experience in sports development. A proven track record in designing, implementing and reviewing sports initiatives and plans while also possessing an excellent knowledge of current factors relating to increasing participation, especially amongst inactive groups. You will be a strong communicator and leader while having experience in event organisation.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
