TIME:
Wednesday-Friday, 10am to 3pm; Saturday 10am-4pm.

The Folklore Centre in Todmorden are hosting a new exhibition - The Museum of Monotropism, by autistic embroidery and mixed-media artist Tzipporah Johnston. Other events linked to this exhibition include an artist talk and private views.

The Museum of Monotropism is an immersive installation that weaves together embroidery, mixed media, and found objects, creating a living museum that reflects the artist's autistic brain.

Of the installation, Tzipporah says:

"I’m keenly aware that autistic people rarely get to see positive or even nuanced depictions of ourselves. With the Museum, I want to explore autistic ways of looking at the world and celebrate autistic joy while acknowledging the things I find challenging."

The exhibition itself is running from Saturday, 23rd March to Saturday, 19th May, at the Folklore Centre, 65 Halifax Road, Todmorden, OL14 5BB. You may also be interested in Tzipporah's artist talk and private view of the exhibition from 4-6pm on Saturday 23rd March. This would be an opportunity to chat, ask questions, give feedback, and delve deeper into the themes of the exhibition. This event is free and refreshments will be provided, but numbers are limited so booking is required.

Access statement from host organisation:

The exhibition is supported by Door in the Wall Arts Access CIC and the Sarah Jane Leigh Charitable Trust. We aim to make it as accessible as possible for neurodivergent visitors: we will be providing sensory backpacks for visitor use, and supporting materials will be available in multiple formats, including audio and Easy Read. We are also creating a dedicated access information webpage, and a visual story will be available before the exhibition launches. If you or your group have any questions or access needs you would like to discuss, please contact hello@doorinthewall.co.uk
