HALIFAX TOWN OF CULTURE 2028
We are delighted to announce our intention to bid for the UK Government's 2028 Town of Culture Scheme! The government has launched a brand-new competition to crown the very first UK Town of Culture in 2028 - with a £3 million prize todevelop an inspiring cultural programme.
With our extraordinary heritage, creative spirit and Vision 34 ambition for culture to be enjoyed by everyone, we believe Halifax has a fantastic chance of winning.
Calderdale Council, working closely with partners, is now preparing an expression of interest for Halifax to become the UK Town of Culture 2028. This is a huge opportunity to celebrate our heritage, creativity, diversity and ambition strengthen the partnerships that make Halifax such a vibrant place to live, work and visit.
In our Year of Culture, CultureDale, together we delivered 550 events, welcomed 100,000 participants in creative and cultural activities, and engaged young people and groups often under-represented in cultural life. Visitor numbers rose by 15%, helping drive an incredible £50 million uplift. Becoming the inaugural Town of Culture would take this momentum even further, placing culture at the heart of Calderdale’s future.
This is our moment to show the rest of the UK what makes Halifax so special – so let’s go for it!
We’re already seeing fantastic media interest locally, regionally and nationally. Your support could make our submission even more compelling.
