Artists from St. Augustine’s Centre in Halifax spent six weeks working with Zephie at Everybody Arts to explore the theme of identity through the medium of clay and ceramic busts, creating amazing works which reflect their inner worlds.
These busts were on display last month as part of the Of Earth and Memory residency in The Everybody Gallery, alongside writings and sketches that informed their work, and accompanied by a series of images taken by photographer Nic Chapman of St Augustine’s Centre members, who were photographed in the place where they feel most at home in Halifax.
One of the aims of the project is to platform the voices, stories and creative expression of people who have fled war and persecution, with the hope of fostering understanding and cohesion in our community.
See the photos below from the exhibition’s opening event, and watch Zephie’s video here explaining the project in more detail.
