PeatZine Pop-up Exhibition and Zine Making Workshop
December 8, 2025

In the setting of the beautiful and newly-renovated railway station The Local Motive in Mytholmroyd, we saw the culmination of the PeatZine project, which produced abroad variety of creative work over the course of months reflecting onCalderdale’s natural landscape and moorlands.

This exhibition included:

·      Original work from various artist facilitators attached to the project.

·      New work from landscape writer Paul Knights, Landscape Story, based on our heritage story gathering sessions.

·      ‘Bog beings’ created by Mytholmroyd Cubs

·      Creative writing inspired by walks around Withens Clough, and a new Calderdale Peat Glossary to describe our moorlands.

·      Visual art created by Calderdale College students in response to the sphagnum moss planting and rewetting work at Ogden Water Nature Reserve

Additionally, a free zine making workshop was held on a drop-in basis over the weekend, with many fantastic and expressive zines created in reflection of the Calderdale Way, and a walk and map-making workshop were held on the Sunday.

PeatZine takes a section of the Calderdale Way and tells its stories through visual art, sound, creative writing, illustration and heritage writing. This edition focuses on Cragg Vale to Todmorden, starting from Mytholmroyd, and will be published later this year.
