Weber - Der Freischütz Overture
Saint-Saëns - Cello Concerto No 1
Brahms - Symphony No 1.
Our spring concert opens with Weber's Der Freischütz Overture and its unearthly portrayal of the supernatural.
Saint-Saëns' impassioned Cello Concerto No 1 follows, with the second half featuring Brahms' long-awaited and soul-searching Symphony No 1.
About our soloist
Lucy Arch is a cellist with the Hallé Orchestra who has performed as guest principal with leading ensembles including Manchester Camerata, London Concert Orchestra, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, and most recently as principal cello on the Les Misérables World Tour.
She has also played with prestigious orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Opera North.
Lucy studied at the Royal Northern College of Music graduating with First-Class Honours and a Postgraduate Diploma with distinction, winning multiple prizes including the Hirsch Prize and Laurence Turner Prize. As a soloist, she has performed major concertos by Schumann, Elgar, Dvořák and Haydn alongside giving several recital performances.
