Some Calderdale Murders 1858-1957
May 1, 2026
TIME:
19:00 - 20:30
David Glover will tell six fascinating tales in a fully-illustrated lecture: From the Wadsworth Moor murder of 1858, through to the tragic killing of Emily Pye in Gibbet Street, Halifax, in 1957; looking at very different tragedies, and how they were investigated. Who was Bethel Parkinson? Why was the vicar of Todmorden attacked? Who was found dead at Shroggs Tip? Which Southowram choirmaster was killed by a burglar?
This event will take place at St Anne’s Church, Church Lane, Southowram, Halifax HX3 9TD.
Tickets are £5 on the door.
